RFC Arsenal Look Strong in Greensboro

Sep 7, 2009  The RFC Arsenal recently competed in the Greensboro Labor Day Shootout Showcase Tournament down in Greensboro, NC. They finished with a commanding 3-0 record. The Arsenal dominated their opponents scoring 17 goals while allowing only three.

This tournament has traditionally proved outstanding competition for the Arsenal in preparation for the WAGS season play. This year was no exception. The RFC Girls solidified their team’s abilities to adapt to different methods of play from their opponents. The defense was able to keep the ball away from their goal while the midfield and offense mastered their passing and shooting throughout the weekend – as proven with their final tally of 17 goals scored for the women in black. Goalies Addie Healy and Shannon Casey worked their magic in the goal while relying on the outstanding defensive play by the defensive line of Caroline Craver, Kirstie Fleger, Aidan Hitt, Kaitlyn Law, Renee Garcia, and Tess Jarriel to drive the ball up to the midfield and offensive end of the field. That is where Lexie Krall, Carleigh Snead, Paige Malone, Christina Anderson, Saundra Bailey and Kaitlyn Law controlled the ball and knocked in the many goals.

Coach Dave Wood explained how the Arsenal have been working on intensity and accuracy, and this weekend was a perfect time to rev up the level of play and keep the possession in the RFC camp. Coach Wood said, “I’m proud of how the girls dominated their opponents this weekend – they came to play and it showed in the results. They are all playing well together, which was seen in the final scores for the weekend.”

RFC Arsenal return to Virginia to start the WAGS Fall Season and the State Cup.
