RFC United was formed by the Reston Football Club in June of 2004 as part of the girls expansion program. The nucleus of the United comprised of players from a former USYS Region 1 Championship team along with WAGS Division 1 players from teams competing in both Virginia and Maryland.

In United's two and a half years together, the team has finished as finalists of the prestigious San Diego Surf Cup, Disney Showcase, and Jefferson Cup among other top events. A WAGS Division 1 Championship team, United are 2007 Virginia State Cup finalists after being semifinalists in 2005 and 2006. Following the path of the RFC squads before them, the United has established itself as one of the best teams in the country.

On the college landscape, United has committed 21 players to many of the top NCAA Division I conferences for women's soccer in the nation.

In the spring of 2008, United will compete in the Region I Premier League in addition to attending premier tournaments throughout the United States.
